See that picture up there? You are looking at the first African-American/woman of color to win the coveted title of Women’s All-Around Gymnastics Champion. Douglas, at age 16, is bringing that shiny gold medal back to the United States after a dominating performance against Russia’s Victoria Komova.
She is only the forth U.S. Gymnast to bring home the title and the first Af-Am gymnast to bring home an individual Olympic medal since Dominique Dawes of the ’96 Magnificent Seven. With the history making goal always in her sights, following her win Douglas said ”She was one of my inspirations and role models growing up.” Now she will surely become a role model to all young women growing up behind her.
In total, the Americans topped the Russians by over 5 points in an Olympic showing that will certainly go down in the history books. Shout-out and congrats to Gabby Douglas and the entire gymnastics teams From The Field!
UPDATE: I MET HER!!!
